Performance Management is not a strategy to “micro-manage” thereby stunting the professional growth of employees. Whether at the organisational, departmental or employee level, the goal of performance management is to make sure all business goals are satisfactorily met.

Unlike, the traditional top-down appraisal where a supervisor appraises the performance of their subordinate, 360 Degree feedback incorporates multiple perspectives by using feedback from a variety of sources. These sources include peers, subordinates, customers, self, and supervisor.

The results of this type of feedback process provide an understanding of how the employee is perceived from different perspectives and this helps an individual to understand how others perceive their work performance. This kind of information can guide employee development and identify training needs.

However, not many executives are coached to appraise objectively. Considering the intricacies of the 3600 approach, everyone in the organisation must be tutored to evaluate quantitatively and empirically.
