Personal Development: Lessons from the Most Popular Sport Event
The motivation to commit to their dreams with unshaking fortitude to unlock opportunities separate Olympic medalists from the rest of the world. Paying attention to some of the Olympians can help us develop ourselves with little effort.
Let’s take a look at Usain Bolt.
Bolt has won nine gold medals in the last three Olympics and he has run less than two minutes on the track. He has put in his best. That’s economy of effort.
He ran for less than 115 seconds in total in his Olympics career and made 119 million dollars!!! That’s more than $1M for each second he ran!! That’s a new unit of speed for the “run” for money… $1Million/sec.
But for those two minutes, he trained for 25+ years!!! Now that’s what I call investment!!
It is time to question ourselves. What investment are we toiling for presently and how rich will it make us in the future?
Confidence
“Practice creates confidence. Confidence empowers you.” Simone Biles (2016 Olympic gymnastics gold medalist )
To be successful, one needs to be confidence. Confidence helps to overcome fear. The more you work on horning your skills, the better you become on the job. When you don’t have confidence, success cannot be achieved because one is holding back which in turn will lead to missed opportunities. Believing in yourself is what allows you to rise up and reach your full potential.
Quitting
“Never quit, never give up.” Gabby Douglas (first African-American to win the Olympic gold medal as individual all round champion)
Never give up, there is always a solution to every problem. You must learn to do the things you think are impossible. Behind the smile of every successful person is the determination and perseverance very few can learn. They see the end, make plans to get there irrespective of the setbacks.
Failure
“Failure I can live with. Not trying is what I can’t handle” Richard Ross (American 400 metres gold medalist)
Failure happens even to the very best, but the most important thing is learning from the mistakes and using the lessons learnt to make corrections to change the future.
Goals
“I think goals should never be easy, they should force you to work even if they are uncomfortable at the time” Michael Phelps
In any sport, goals are well set as they focus on the best performance within a set time. This method can be applied in business using the SMART and SWOT analysis. Life is full of challenges and there are times when it is difficult to keep up. Sit up, write down your goals, put it where you can see them regularly and put in a lot of hard work. Sometimes, stretching yourself beyond limit is important to help you achieve the desired result.
