Kill The Boss, Fire The Manager, Be The Coach (Fundamentals of Executive Coaching & Mentoring)
“People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads and the boss drives.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Why in sports do we have coaches leading the teams to long-term and record-breaking wins while in the office and business environment we have bosses (managers) and employees (subordinates), with bosses thinking their role is to
direct and employees to follow?
By definition, a boss directs his subordinates, whereas coaches develop their players, the point of management however is to teach and groom reports to reach their maximum potential. Semantics aside, there are legitimate reasons why replacing the boss or manager with a coach makes sense.
This is precisely why we strongly propose eradicating the BOSS mentality, deleting the MANAGER psyche and becoming a COACH.
